THE CHALLENGE

Swissport International Ltd is the world’s largest provider of ground and cargo handling services in the aviation industry. The company provides services on behalf of some 835 client-companies and handles around 230 million passengers and 3.9 million flights (movements) per year.

Swissport Cargo Services is the world's leading Cargo Services provider, offering Cargo Handling at more than 104 airports worldwide, and handling in excess of 4.7 million tonnes of cargo annually.

As part of the continual infrastructure development within the Swissport UK network Swissport Cargo Heathrow is looking to introduce temperature controlled storage to handle pharmaceutical & perishable goods for its clients.

THE SOLUTION

Air Tech Innovations Ltd was appointed to provide new temperature controlled storage rooms together with major modification works to the existing MHE cargo handling system.

The temperature controlled rooms offer 300 cubic metres of chilled storage (+2 to + 8 degrees) and 400 cubic metres of ambient storage (+15 to + 25 degrees). Both temperature controlled rooms where fitted with Air Tech Innovations castor deck, to allow the movement of cargo pallets from the truck docks and ETV storage system. A speed lane was also introduced to allow the rapid movement of cargo from truck docks straight through to a cargo shuttle and out to airside cargo handling.

THE RESULTS

The project was fully project managed by Air Tech Innovations, which extends to on-site supervision and management of the installation through to completion and handover.
